Nuffield Bursary 2017
We are delighted to announce that the 2017 Nuffield Bursary has been awarded to Two Destination Language, who will be exploring ideas of identity, particularly in light of Britain's decision to leave the E.U. The company will be testing ideas at Lancaster Arts during an initial exploratory residency at the end of May, and will work closely with our team in the Autumn. We look forward to getting to know them!
About the company Two Destination Language is led by Alister Lownie and Katherina Radeva. Their work together traverses fine art and theatre practices. Some of their work is for theatre stages, but they also make installations, exhibitions, outdoor pieces and intimate experiences.
Community, identity and memory are the ideas which percolate all Two Destination Language work: an interest in boundaries and otherness, belonging and personal history. Alister’s Scottish heritage and Katherina’s Bulgarian background give them an interest in how cultures interact and develop.
The company has been based in Salisbury since 2011, and works across the UK as well as touring internationally, particularly with Near Gone, which won the Total Theatre Award for Innovation, Experimentation and Playing With Form, as well as the inaugural Pulse Ipswich Suitcase Prize. Their newest work, Declining Solo, opens in Folkestone's Quarterhouse on 29 April before touring.
