Straining relations with our allies and neighbours, and threatening the very concept of ‘Europe’ itself, migration has taken on a new and different significance in recent years, and is fast becoming the defining political issue of our time. Should we welcome those fleeing conflict in the Middle East, or is Britain full up?
David Goodhart is a journalist and think-tanker. After 12 years as a Financial Times journalist, including three years as a foreign correspondent in Germany at the time of unification, he founded the current affairs monthly magazine Prospect in 1995 and edited it for 15 years. He then wrote a book The British Dream: Successes and Failures of Post-War Immigration and became director of the think tank Demos. He is now director of the Integration Hub website (integrationhub.net) which is at the centre of the debate about ethnic minority integration and segregation and also heads the Demography, Immigration and Integration unit at the Policy Exchange think tank.
