When was the last time you had a conversation with a stranger?
Join us for a special picnic edition of No Such Thing, taking place on three days, across three locations this Spring.
The offer is simple: we buy you a picnic lunch in exchange for a short conversation. We create a menu of questions to choose from and talk about what’s happening in the world, in our lives and stuff that’s playing on our minds. There’s always a ‘Today’s Special’ from that day’s news.
The conversations are one-to-one, lasting half an hour(ish). You’ll eat with a host in a human-sized nest, by a tree in the university library or in a spot in the West End of Morecambe (exact location TBC– weather dependent).
Very limited places. First come, first served…
Thurs 27 March, Peter Scott Gallery, in the NEST, at 12noon, 12.45pm and 1.30pm (INDOOR location). SOLD OUT.
Weds 2 April, Lancaster University Library, at 12 noon, 12.45pm and 1.30pm (INDOOR location). Booking available here.
Friday 11 April, West End of Morecambe as part of Campus in the City (meet at a location revealed upon RSVP), at 12 noon, 12.45pm and 1.30pm (OUTDOOR or INDOOR, weather dependent). Booking available here.
*Please note. If you book onto one of these conversation/lunches, a member of Lancaster Arts staff will be in touch to confirm exact meeting place, your lunch order and to tell you a bit more about what to expect on the day. Note that we may not be able to cater for all dietary requirements. Vegetarian and vegan options will be available. Let us know if you have allergies or intolerances and we will accommodate you where we can.
No Such Thing was originally devised by Manchester-based company Quarantine, who started it in 2012 and over 10 years had around 500 conversations in the curry cafe, Kabana in Manchester city centre. In 2022, they decided to pass on their experience and techniques to allow partners across the UK and beyond to deliver the project. Lancaster Arts got on board in 2023, having conversations in eateries and other places in and around Lancaster.
