A joint international festival of the arts, Art Beats launched in 2023 at Sunway University and this year takes place at Lancaster University in collaboration with Lancaster Arts.

Art Beats brings together work from artists and filmmakers from around the world, supports young artists, and offers students the opportunity to attend workshops and learn from industry experts over the course of a week.

Through an open submission process, Art Beats invited work addressing three themes: Eco Visions, Untold Stories, and Flight. We received photography, fine art, film and video from artists including current students, alumni and staff from Lancaster and Sunway, as well as artists from around the globe. The exhibition offers those at the start of their creative careers a valuable opportunity to exhibit alongside those with decades of experience.

Exhibiting artists include: Nikita Andrejev, Belva Atsil, Made Virgie Avianthy, Phisenukwat Chai, Gerry Davies, Sky Fong, Mohammad Ghorbankarimi, Ian Hunt, Hamideh Javadi, James Kachan, Md Masudul Islam Khan, Xiaohan Luo, Gregory McCool, Ailsa Madill, Isabel Crabtree Parker, Clare Samuel and Peggy Pui Kwan You.

Within the exhibition, we are proud to present an Art Beats / Lancaster Arts commission, Flight Paths, a new immersive audio installation from artist Leo Mercerexploring conflicting emotions around flying as part of Lancaster Arts 2024 annual thematic programme, Flight

Art Beats was enabled by Lancaster University’s Global Advancement Fund, and is testament to our shared ambitions to connect art, artists, ideas and audiences internationally. More information about the festival programme can be found here: https://www.lancaster.ac.uk/art-beats-festival/
