The BBC Philharmonic returns to the Great Hall and marks our new theme of Ritual with a bang! This outstanding orchestra, together with rising international star conductor, Ben Gernon and award-winning pianist, Juan Perez Floristan, is sure to take the roof off with this spectacular programme.
From the colour and flair of Parisian nightlife in the Ravel and Svendsen works to Beethoven’s Fifth, often known as the Fate symphony, ideas of ritual surface throughout the evening.Gernon was Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra from 2017 to 2020, one of the youngest conductors to have held a titled position with a BBC orchestra.
Gernon has already conducted many of the world’s major orchestras and made his debut in the ENO conducting Simon McBurney’s production of The Magic Flute in 2018. Winner of multiple piano competitions such as the Arthur Rubenstein, Juan Perez Floristan has debuted in many of the world’s major concert halls and toured internationally, all by the age of 28!This evening’s concert will be broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
