GRANADOS: La maja y el ruisenor
Our artists look to women of distinguished courage, ability and noble qualities for inspiration, exploring these Heroines through 200 years of song. Spanish music bookends this recital, beginning with an early setting from the Greek myth Acis and Galatea and ending with Granados’s impassioned The Maja and the Nightingale, inspired by the paintings of Goya. It also includes Ravel’s exotic setting of the One Thousand and One Nights as told by Shéhérezade.
