In collaboration with Lancaster University Students Union the Peter Scott Gallery will host a series of short talks which address international questions on Tuesday 9th February. This event has been organised as part of The World at Lancaster and Lancaster Arts’ Festival Of Questions.

11:00 Jon Martin: The Internet & International Relations.
How the internet has changed international relations? Touching on a range of case studies this talk will explore how the internet is beginning to change the way states, internal and external groups interact with each other and the rest of the world.
11:45 Andy Smith: How can theatre engage with socio-political ideas?
Andy Smith is an award winning writer and theatre maker who completed a PhD at Lancaster in 2014. The focus of his research project considered how a theatre practice might be able to engage with ideas of social and political change. In this presentation he will talk about addressing ideas of the political, both local and global, through his works for theatre. This will include reflections on his most recent piece, The Preston Bill, which will be performed at The Storey in Lancaster on the evening of the 9th of February.
13:00 Wei Shen: How China sees the world from ancient to current time.
As the world’s second largest economy, China is playing an increasingly important role in global affairs. However, how does China view itself and the rest of the world, as well as her newly gained power status? This talk tries to explain how China sees the world from both historical and contemporary contexts, and shows how China’s global view has evolved throughout centuries, and what her future aspirations may be.
