CHAUSSON Concert for violin, piano and quartet
A love of French music has brought this all-star cast together to perform this sumptuous programme. The Doric String Quartet return to Lancaster with this rarely heard string quartet by Chausson. The poor composer was nearly at the end of writing the work when he died after his bicycle crashed into a wall, and it was later completed by D’Indy. This is followed by a delicious selection of impressionistic piano music performed by Lancashire’s darling of the piano, Kathryn Stott.
This concert ends with a heady rendition of Chausson’s epic Concert for violin, piano and string quartet. The composer exclaimed “Never have I had such a success! I can't get over it. Everyone seems to love the Concert.” This melodic blockbuster will feature the exceptional young violinist and former winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year, Jennifer Pike.
