Artist Rajni Shah is looking for up to ten participants to take part in a free two-day workshop over the weekend of September 26th and 27th (11 – 4pm each day) at The Gregson Centre in Lancaster. This workshop is not for professional artists - enthusiasm and curiosity are all that's required.
About The Workshop Sessions
Participants will create short simple performances based on autobiographical material using a combination of voice, text and objects. Workshop participants need not have prior experience in any of these areas; there will be a maximum of ten participants and each will be able to work with the areas that interest him/her most.
This workshop is part of the development process for Rajni's newest performance, Glorious! which is being co-commissioned by the Nuffield Theatre in Lancaster and will go into rehearsals in 2010. The workshop will be led by Rajni Shah with assistance from costume designer Lucille Acevedo-Jones (lucilleacevedojones.co.uk) and performer Sheila Ghelani. There will be an informal celebratory sharing at the end of the workshop.
Meet The Artist
In preparation for the open weekend workshop, Rajni will be at St Nicholas Arcades on the afternoon of Wednesday September 23rd and working with her collaborators to set up a space (located in the shop unit opposite Furniture Matters) for passers-by to have a cup of tea, to learn about Glorious!, the new project, and to talk through some ideas in an informal environment. Come along and find out more...
Rajni Shah's work leans gently across disciplines, countries and thought structures. She is a quiet voice of change, creating and curating visually engaging performances, interventions and writings that open up space for conversation and meeting.
